Planning For Probate: What You Need To Know

By Sharon Hurley Hall Dealing with someone's estate after death can be difficult. Here's a quick guide to probate in the UK. When a person dies somebody has to deal with their estate (the money, property and possessions left) by collecting in all the money, paying any debts and distributing the estate to those people entitled to it. The term probate often means the issuing of a legal document which is called a grant of representation, to one or more people authorising them to do this. Organisations holding money in the deceased's name need to know to whom that money should be paid, and the grant is proof that the person named in it may collect the money. The estate left when a person dies passes to the people named in his or her Will. If there is no valid Will it passes to his or her next of kin. The distribution of the estate to the correct people is the responsibility of the person named in the grant. The grant is proof to anyone wishing to see it that the person named in it is entitled to collect in and distribute the estate. The Executors will need a grant to transfer or sell a property held only in the deceased's name. There are organisations who may release the money to the Executors without a grant if the amount held is small and there are no complications. Among these are Insurance Companies and Building Societies. Obtaining probate can be up extremely complex. For this reason, it is worth appointing a professional executor to handle your estate on behalf of your other executors. You can then rest safe in the knowledge that the administration of your estate will be dealt with by experts in a professional, efficient and caring manner. Adirondack Chairs

By Jason Albright Adirondack chairs are a popular choice for garden and patio furniture. Thomas Lee who was seeking ways to furnish his summer home invented Adirondack chairs in the early 1900s. He utilized materials that he found around his vacation home, located in Westport, NY. His design impressed a local carpenter, and the Adirondack chair became popular all over the country. The Adirondack chair had eleven slats of wood and wide arm rests. The seat and back were angled to allow better positioning on the Adirondack mountain terrain. Today, their high angled backs and sloping seats identify Adirondack chairs. They are made with comfort and relaxation in mind, making them perfect chairs for outdoors. The wide arm rests of the Adirondack chairs are perfect to hold drinks or your favorite novel while you relax. The chair wraps around you, making it a comfortable place to unwind. Adirondack chairs come in several different materials, including plastic and several natural woods. It is not hard to find an Adirondack chair to suit your needs and personal style. Most Adirondack chairs are natural wood colored, but you can also find them painted white. Plastic Adirondack chairs come in a wide variety of custom colors, such as black, white, sand, blue, hunter green and sunny yellow. You can also get dual Adirondack chairs that have seating for two, gliding or rocking Adirondack chairs, and chairs with special features like curved backs or shell designs. Adirondack chairs are normally very affordable for the quality of craftsmanship that you receive. Custom made wooden Adirondack chairs will fetch a price of $250. With proper care, however, Adirondack chairs will last many years. This makes custom made Adirondack chairs a good investment for your patio furniture. Plastic Adirondack chairs are also a good choice. This lower cost option is also very durable. It is resistant to moisture, chlorine, salt water and insects. Plastic chairs will also look new for several years. Whether you choose a natural wood chair, or a plastic version, adding an Adirondack chair to your patio furniture is a great option. Breast Implants Safety

By Hillary Nehls There has been a long discussion over many years whether breast implants are safe or not. Breast implants are among the most popular cosmetic surgery procedures. There is simply no other option available to increase breast volume. Increasing breast size is a personal decision. While there is rarely a medical reason for it, getting breast implants and bigger breasts can have a big positive psychological impact on women. However, it also means to accept potential risks. Many would like to accept any risk in order to get bigger breasts. With breast implants you can change the size and also the shape of your breast. For many women this means an improvement of life quality and is therefore worth the risk. Like any other cosmetic surgery procedure, a breast implant surgery has risks as well. Per year there are over 250,000 breast implant surgeries performed and the numbers are increasing. About 7% have their implants removed again. Breast implants are for augmentation and reconstruction, a pure cosmetic surgery only. You can choose between saline and silicone filled implants. Some implants allow a change in the volume even after surgery. Saline-filled breast implants are FDA approved, silicon implants not yet. Silicone is assumed to be biologically inactive and therefore safe but over the years many women claimed that their implants would cause tissue or neurological diseases or even cancer. Till now it is still unclear whether silicon implants are totally safe or not. Another risk is a tightening and squeezing of the scar tissue around the implant. It can change the shape of the breast, cause pain and require a surgery. Rupture can occur anytime. Saline filled implants would only leak salt water which is not dangerous but the impact of leaked silicon is still unknown. It is advised to remove the broken implant. Another potential risk is nerve damage which could lead to a change in sensation in the nipple and tissue. You should also know that you most likely will have more than one surgery over time because of the complications. Breast implants will not last a lifetime. There are women who believe that implants have destroyed their health and lifes while others are very happy with implants. There are still many questions that have to be answered before you have a breast implant. If you decide for a breast implant surgery, make sure you choose an experienced surgeon who can answer your questions and has a proven track record. Not So Scary: Studying for the GRE the Right Way

By Amber C. Smith Studying for the GRE really isn't as hard as it seems at first. There are plenty of resources to help you, and the GRE even provides you with some excellent practice materials when you sign up to take the test. Study Books Several companies provide books that help you study for the GRE. Since the test is now online, most of these companies also provide practice tests that you can take on your computer. Often the best way to study is to simply take these tests, grade yourself, and study what you didn't know. Take a Class Now first off, you should know that these classes are VERY expensive. Companies like Kaplan offer them for all the tests, but in reality, you probably don't need a class to help you study for the GRE. If you decide to take one, though, inquire about the curriculum first to make sure that they aren't just using the study materials you already have and walking you through them. Study Groups Oftentimes, your professors will be willing to put together a GRE study group as your success reflects on them and the school. Additionally, you may want to get together with a buddy or a group and study together. Having someone else remind you to keep studying can be the most powerful tool you have when getting ready to take the GRE. GRE CD When you sign up for the GRE, the company will send you a CD full of information and practice tests. The earlier you sign up, the earlier you will receive this valuable resource. When I was getting ready to take the GRE, I found that this was the most important tool I had, but since I didn't sign up early, I only received it about a week before the test. Set Aside Time Make sure you set aside time each week for about a month or two to study for the GRE. If you spend 3 or 4 hours a week on the test for a month, you will probably make a good grade. By spacing out your studying, you'll avoid having to cram for the last week in order to get through everything. It's much more enjoyable to go have coffee one night a week with a friend and study together than it is to lock yourself in your room for a week to cram. Plus Size Bridal Gowns - What's Right For Your Big Day?

By Christy Diaz Every woman wants to look her absolute best on her wedding day. With more choices in plus size bridal gowns than ever before, the variety of different styles can be overwhelming. Your answers to the following wedding planning questions will help you narrow down your selection from the ever growing styles of plus size bridal gowns. What Type of Wedding? You may be tempted to rush out to buy the gown as soon as you receive the proposal from your beloved. But, you are better off choosing your wedding and reception venues before making a beeline to a retailer that carries plus size bridal gowns. Once you have selected the location, you will have a better understanding of what styles will be suitable. You may want a formal gown for a church or temple ceremony. If you are exchanging vows on the beach or in a backyard, you might look for something more simple and casual. Keep in mind that trains and veils can quickly become dirty dragging on lawns or outdoor walkways. What Is Your Bridal Gown Personality? Go ahead and buy a couple of those fun bridal magazines. What gowns do you find the most beautiful? You'll probably gravitate to one style or another. Remember that this is your big day. You can listen to what others have to say, but you should stick to a style that you love. Ultra-feminine brides may long for a lacey, full-skirted creation. A sporty, active woman might prefer an unadorned, structured dress, and a sophisticated, beaded sheath can be sublime on a cosmopolitan urbanite. What Is Your Budget? Let's face it - bridal ensembles can be astronomically expensive. But, with some good research, you can find a dream gown that will fit your budget. If you have found the perfect designer gown, but it is out of your price range, don't be afraid to ask the retailer for lesser price similar styles. Sometimes, the only difference between the designer gown and the less expensive alternative is the type of lace, beading, or fabric. Remember to also allow some extra funds for a headpiece or veil, shoes, and undergarments. What Makes You Feel Beautiful? As you cross the threshold into your new life as a married woman, you will want to look your most beautiful. Feel free to wear what makes you feel special and rest assured that your feelings of joy, love and happiness that day will make you a beautiful bride. The Secret of How to Lose 5 Pounds in a Week

By Ian Robertson Are you losing at least one pound per week? If diet and exercise are made priorities then it should be completely feasible to lose at least a pound per week. It needs to be understood that a pound of bodyfat contains roughly 3500 calories and if one removes 500 excess calories a day then at least one pound will be lost until a goal weight is achieved. This doesnt take regular exercise into consideration which means more weight can be lost. As far as the diet is concerned, make sure you remove those 500 calories from superfluous food sources such as sodas which can be replaced with water or unsweetened tea. Thats easily 120-150 calories depending on the soda. Instead of fries or chips, go with steamed vegetables instead. Vegetables and fruit are recommended for two reasons: Not only do they have fewer calories due to the water content but they contain considerably more vitamins and minerals than the unnecessary junk. The diet facet is certainly more challenging than exercise in terms of fighting off the calories. While for most, exercise is the easier of the two, it is still a motivational challenge at times. Some days we are too busy, while other days simply leave us too tired. And while easier said than done, try not to fall into a rut like that. One of the best aspects of exercise is that it can serve as one-stop shopping in terms of calorie reduction. For instance, an hour of jogging burns up to 900 calories! However, remember to use weights as well because building muscle is what boosts the metabolism in the long-term. Alone, an hours worth of weight training will burn 500 calories but the metabolic boost you get is unique only to resistance training. Of course, one needs to remember to not only eat a nutritious protein and carbohydrate snack an hour after exercising but to eat enough calories throughout the day. Many, think starvation will lead to fat loss when exactly the opposite is true. The body must break down its own muscle tissue in an effort to maintain ones metabolism since not enough calories are being eaten. When calories are lacking, body fat is hoarded and metabolisms are slowed down in order to conserve energy due to the fight-or-flight response. Once a solid diet and exercise program has been established, removing 500 calories a day will become the healthy sidenote to an overall healthy lifestyle. Tanning Lotion is Common Sense in a Bottle

By Terry Price When it comes to avoiding burns, whether it is from a full day at the beach or a tanning bed session, a few commonsense precautions should be taken. If you have ever used a tanning bed before, you will know what an enjoyable experience it can be! Occasionally, you can end up with sore and burned skin, known as tanning bed burns. Regardless of the source of your burn, your skin will feel tender, and there is a chance of permanently damaging your skin as well. There are two common sources of burns from indoor tanning beds. It is from an overexposure to UV rays, or the tanning bed user has not applied enough protection against UV rays. The proper tanning bed lotion will give you this protection. Use only the best ones on the market, and you will find that for the most part burning will become nonexistent. A good lotion will actually stimulate production of melanin and when more melanin pigments are produced, it will allow you to enjoy your tanning bed experience longer. You will find also that most tanning lotions will have a built-in moisturizer that will help your skin keep its youthful and elastic look. Using a good tanning lotion will help you keep a vibrant healthy tan, without getting your skin too leathery. Use goggles in indoor tanning beds to protect your eyelids from burning. They are specially designed to give 100% protection against UV radiation. Common sense goes a long way and one of the first and simplest things you could do to protect yourself from overexposure to UV rays is to simply limit your time on the tanning bed. If you are a first-time user of a tanning bed, limit your first day to only a few minutes and gradually introduce yourself to the tanning process by increasing time increments progressively. Usually burns occur when people ignore safety warnings and precautions. But most of all, having an enjoyable tanning bed experience starts with just good old commonsense! Choosing a Music Technology Course for your Son or Daughter

By David Mellor Music Technology is a popular subject at college and university. But how do you know whether you are choosing the RIGHT course for your child? Even in late teenage, children need parental help in choosing the right course to secure their future employment prospects. It is never a good idea to try and force your child to take a course in which they are not interested. They will either do badly or drop out. The consequences are totally negative. So if your child has expressed a preference for Music Technology, you should ensure that they choose the course that will benefit them most. There are two problems with colleges and universities that run Music Technology courses... Firstly, the reason why they run such courses is that they know they are popular. People don't want to study math, physics, chemistry and English literature any more - they want a 'sexy' subject. Or at least what they consider to be exciting. So colleges and universities offer Music Technology courses to fulfill that demand. Secondly, not all colleges and universities are staffed by people who really understand the industry. There is no 'music technology' industry as such. Ideally however, colleges and universities offering Music Technology as a subject would be staffed by people who had worked in recording studios, broadcasting, live sound, theater sound, perhaps film sound too. The problem however is that people who work in these industries at a high level are generally better paid than teachers and lecturers. So why would they move into education? Some do however. In the industries mentioned, it is common to work either very long hours, or to work shifts including night work. Some people therefore will move to education to achieve a better life/work balance. This is good, as long as they maintain contact with industry to keep their knowledge relevant and skills up to date. So these two factors are very important. Does the college or university have a commitment, or are they offering Music Technology as a fix for their finances? Do they have ex-industry staff - not people who couldn't find success in the industry but the ones who have moved over to education for a good solid reason? Also it is relevant to enquire how long a college or university has been offering Music Technology courses. Some are very well established and well respected. If you were an ex-industry lecturer, that's the kind of place you would want to work, rather than in some upstart college just doing it for the money. Remember, this is an important decision. Get it right and your son or daughter could have a firm foundation for their future career. Get it wrong, and it could mean years of wasted time at this important stage of life. Poor Money Management - "Australians' Personal Money Management in a Shambles"

By Julian Thornton Sure Australia is renowned for its athletic prowess and excellence across a wide range of fields, however when it comes to personal money management, Aussies arent doing that great. Unfortunately Australians are suffering from debt levels higher than most countries and our addiction to the plastic fantastic isnt doing us any favours either. Put simply, we have two main areas of weakness: we dont budget and we are becoming too addicted to credit cards. As dire as the situation may sound, there are things that we can all do to improve our financial lot, and Im going to share it all with you now! Fail to Budget, Fail to Live We Australians approach budgeting in the same way as we do dieting. Like bad credit, obesity is on the rise in Australia too, yet when it comes to the obesity cure and prevention (dieting and exercise), we simply procrastinate, lose motivation and give up! Its all too hard are common catchcries, and unfortunately the same can be said of budgeting. Most Australians dont stick to a household budget. Instead they will simply wait for pay day with eager (often hungry) anticipation and then as quickly as the money hits their bank accounts, it disappears. Where did all the money go? Most people dont even know, and this is because they dont budget! Failure to budget is really a failure to live. How many of us are suffering as a result of bad budgeting and poor financial management? Our lifestyle completely suffers, and we are miserable and limited due to a lack of money. If we budget, we can plan to live because well have money to live well. Budgeting is all about: Accounting for money in; Accounting for money out; Living within your means; Sticking to a savings plan; and Clearing debts. Most of the time, it is simply the discipline aspect we need help with, and it is at hand. Australians need to call bad credit mortgage experts like us if they feel budgeting is beyond them, because we will give them the expert advice and direction they need to ensure they develop a good budget and stick to it. Then they can secure a good home loan and enjoy the benefits of a financially stable future. Addicted to Credit Cards, Destined for Debt We live in a materialistic society, and daily we are bombarded with, Buy now, pay later messages. Our largest department stores are flogging interest-free schemes like they are going out of fashion, and those that can least afford the debt are accruing it by the thousands of dollars! In Australia, credit defaults are on the rise. In other words, people are skipping, missing or ignoring their credit card payments. Defaults in excess of $500 will appear on your Credit File, which can be all that stands between you and a loan. In addition, if you are determining how much you can afford to borrow on a home loan, for every $1000 of credit limit that you have, subtract $5000 from the possible amount you can borrow in a home loan. Take into consideration the fact that the average Australian now owes $2600 on their credit card (The Courier Mail, 4th January 2006), and that is a significant reduction in the amount you can borrow. Combine these facts with the reality that many people pay interest in excess of 12% on each credit card and only pay the minimum repayment, and its clear that unless there is real improvement in money management, Australians are just going to sink into a darker hole of debt. The key to managing your credit cards is to kill credit card debt. If you have multiple credit cards, get rid of the high interest one first, and then cancel it. Make sure you cancel it so you know the card really is dead and wont come back to life. Systematically pay your credit debts and once you do this, either cancel the card or reduce the limit to something manageable so you dont fall into the hole again. Finally, only use the card when you absolutely need to, for example if you have a direct debit that requires a credit card, or if you are making a hotel booking. Do not indulge in excessive, credit card spending. Chances are you dont need those items you are going to purchase anyway, so avoid it. Do Something Today! Your financial problems wont go away if you ignore them. Sticking your head in the sand will only sink you further into the dark hole of debt. Take affirmative action today and turn your debt situation into a positive one. Its the opportunity to pursue the financially successful future that awaits all who pursue it diligently.
